Are You Awake by Claire McGowan takes the reader on a mystery that is both surreal and recognizable at the same time. despite Audrey's constant rants, and she thankfully blended into the background and became more of hubby's problem to deal with once he decided to be a parent instead of sleeping in when Mary more than deserved one. She has had four radio plays broadcast on the BBC, and her thrillers What You Did and The Other Wife were both number-one bestsellers. Her two young children never let her rest, so one exhausting night, in the middle of a London heatwave, she escapes to a nearby park for some air.

They met in a park in the middle of the night where they both witness a violent attack through a window of a neighbouring house. The narrator was not matching her voice with the story, it was like she was reading some posh person’s diary and found it awfully boring. Like sleuths, they follow the clues, try to involve the police, but with no results, and eventually are in danger for their lives. are almost sure you DID see something that could shed some light into the disappearance of a young woman? is a slow burn thriller that does take a while to pick up pace but there is enough intrigue there to keep you turning the pages. With the waking world too harsh, too cold, and hard to navigate, Tim and Mary join forces at night and begin to look into a crime they aren't even certain they saw.

Mary is a mum of two young children who is totally exhausted with this role but unable to sleep so she escapes to the park. It will have you questioning your own credibility and leave you pondering the reliability of our two narrators. They see news reports of a missing woman who was last seen in this area and become convinced m the woman hey saw is her.Can she still function as an adult in an adult world or has she become one with the group of mothers who only talk about the healthiest formula for babies? The final resolution to Sam’s disappearance and several other unsolved crimes is almost like pulling a rabbit out of a hat – fine for a magic show but not a very satisfactory ending for a mystery novel.

Biography: Claire published her first novel in 2012, and has followed it up with many others in the crime fiction genre and also in women's fiction (writing as Eva Woods). We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. The two meet when they venture outside of their respective houses in the middle of a sleepless night after “witnessing” what appears to be “violence” in the attic room of a boarded up house across the park. Two people, unable to sleep for very different reasons, believe that they see a missing girl being assaulted in the middle of the night. I also found it annoying how “that sort of thing” appeared way to many times at the end of sentences. While I enjoyed some of the OTT moments, I feel like it would’ve worked better if the book was aiming to be a darkly comedic mystery.
