Bringing Back the Beaver is farmer-turned-ecologist Derek Gow's inspirational and often riotously funny firsthand account of how the movement to rewild the British landscape with beavers has become the single most dramatic and subversive nature conservation act of the modern era.

I already loved the idea of beavers being brought back to the UK, but by the time I’d finished reading Derek’s book, I was ready to chain myself to the railings outside 10 Downing Street to help make it happen. After spending a few years in Australia and New Zealand, Jake secured a role at an obscure radio station in Norwich, inadvertently becoming a real-life Alan Partridge in the process. This book presents a case for our future coexistence with beavers by providing factual information on this species that has now passed from national memory, covering the biology, behaviour and ecology of the Eurasian beaver in a British context, from their early history in archaeology and folklore to their contemporary field signs in the wild.Judging the book by the cover alone - which of course you should never do - it seems possible that it might, might, just be an innocent children's story being grossly misinterpreted by immature grown-ups.

Through informative chapters ranging from the psychological and environment to the inclusion of the beaver in myth, legend, art and literature, The Beaver Book is an ideal guide to its subject for all nature lovers, beautifully illustrated throughout with photography and artwork. The authors provide an update on their experiences direct from the field, the quarantine area and the veterinary table. He was previously the Project Manager for the Scottish Beaver Trial and has worked in wildlife conservation and reserve management for over 20 years.Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. If your kid is offended by our books, that implies they understand terms only found in the Urban Dictionary™. I wouldn't go as far as to say this was a good book but I came across it on a group I'm a member of on Facebook, on a day when I really just needed a good laugh and this did not disappoint. From the beginning until the end, we send regular updates so you know where we are with your project.

While Brenda cannot understand why, her friends intervene and help her discover that a trimmed and tended beaver, while much smaller, can be just as great and much more manageable. In characteristic punchy style, Derek Gow has given us the full saga of beaver reintroduction to the UK. Our son loves this book, at the same time us adults can laugh and have a great time reading it to him.

It’s not just about beavers – it’s about humans too, and how, when we really set our minds to it, we can make a difference. If you’re somehow left thinking this is a lovely little story about a lady and her unkempt semiaquatic broad-tailed rodent, then perhaps you need to hear about the other stories in the series… Some of the other titles in the series include: Spank the Monkey Lends a Hand, Suzy Likes to Look at Balls, Put Tony’s Nuts in Your Mouth! providing of course, reintroductions are carried out with the blessing of the surrounding landowners and the local community. I firstsaw this book when my daughter showed me a video on you tube of someone read it had me in stitches. Despite the text being only 44 pages long, the authors cover everything you might want to know about these fascinating rodents.

Starring a charming cast of characters, Nicholas Oldland’s light hearted, contemporary fable highlights the importance of taking care of each other and the world around us. Its fascinating to learn just how complex beaver’s construction is, and what makes them so well-equipped.Róisín Campbell-Palmer is Conservation Projects Manager for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, where she has worked for 12 years. I don't want to totally spoil the narrative for you, but the tale sees Brenda's mates have a word with her about her unruly beaver, which is quite messy compared to theirs.
