When they are little girls, Cibi, Magda and Livia make a promise to their father - that they will stay together, no matter what.

I picked it up thinking it would be a nice quick thriller but then I contemplated DNFing at 15%, and I probably should have.Cibi’s son wrote to Heather Morris after reading the Tattooist of Auschwitz, he asked her to meet his mother and her sisters to consider telling their story. It’s a miracle that these sisters survived, and a miracle that Morris was able to meet them and tell their tale to the world. This story does include some moments sharing a brief glimpse of the horrors to come, but this is mainly the story of those who survived, based on the real stories that were shared with the author.

The author brings us into the day-to-day horrors of Auschwitz and Birkenau while showing how the love of family and the will to survive can bring about remarkable resiliency. We get to see what is happening from the view points of the sisters Sam and Alex as well as business partners Lewis and Damian, Sam's husband Colin, Damian's lover Tina and Lewis and Damian's lawyer Oliver. I absolutely adored Heather's two previous novels - The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka's Journey - so I was more than excited to see she'd written another book. There was one thing in regards to what Colin had done that I must didn't surprise me but when the rest was revealed I was absolutely shocked and my heart went out to two of the characters, one for what they did and one who didn't deserve any of what happened to them. That's a hard promise to make as people are different, have different personalities and life takes us in all different directions.

Concluding The Tattooist of Auschwitz trilogy with the fictionalised account of real-life siblings held in the notorious death camp, Three Sisters follows its protagonists from wartime Poland to Communist Slovakia and beyond. Ema described to me the depravity that went on in that place and about life beyond the dividing electrical fence. Speechify lets you listen to any text, including all books in the world with the best voices out there! The sisters were lucky enough to escape and hide in the forest for many days until they were finally rescued.Once Cibi, Magda and Livia are together again, they draw hope from the promise they made to their father and vow to each other that they will survive. We were blessed that my father, my aba, and my ema were open with us, and didn’t keep their lives before we knew them a mystery. Decidedly a beach book, this is a so-so book to read (you might like it more than I did) … take it to the beach. Heather Morris interviewed and spent quality time with many members of the sister’s family and with each sister so that their story could be told in its entirety.
