We’re delighted to have received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for our project ‘Connecting Lewisham to its Migration Heritage’. Every page is somber and dark, which reinforces the seriousness of the animals’ predicament, but also throws their colorful feathers and fur into sharp relief…The amount of detail is astounding and the quality of the artwork is very high. This sets predictable limits on Miller’s work: after a certain passage of time, untold stories generally have to stay that way. Our national touring exhibition opens in Lewisham on 7 March 2024, shining a light on the stories and experiences of people who have come to Britain to work in the NHS over the past 75 years through photography, film, oral histories and an immersive experience that brings together singing and storytelling. Mukti Jain Campion speaks to Professor Lucy Taylor of Aberystwyth University who has studied the archives of the Welsh in Patagonia, and Gareth Jenkins who has traced a family from his own village in Montgomeryshire that was amongst the early migrants.

Houses and permanent settlements are a relatively late development - dating back little more than ten thousand years. In the UK, IOM supports migrants through a variety of resettlement, support and protection activities. A unique archive of photographs which records the changing face of a British industrial city through the 20th century is now being brought to a national audience in a BBC documentary, as Tim Smith, long-term friend and supporter of the Migration Museum, recounts. The artwork is nothing short of stunning and each and every page could hang in a gallery and perhaps it should, so we are reminded just how lucky we are. With each page, this book demonstrates that migration is at the core of human history, a feature rather than a bug, and that essentially all humans are migrants.Yaya’s water can, a recycled plastic container originally used for cooking palm oil, covered with sackcloth to maintain the water temperature. The majority transited through Agadez, the last city in the north before starting their journey across the desert to reach the Libyan cost. They take your phone and anything of value, plus they make you pay between 10 and 15 francs, and if you don't have it you go to prison.

This resource pack will be helpful to any student studying the impact of emigration from Britain; both on the countries people emigrated to, and on Britain itself. With world leaders meeting this September at the UN, now is the time to stand in solidarity with people forced to flee and tell them that they must commit to do more for refugees and migrants. The Migration Museum commissioned a review to provide an overview of migration-related work being undertaken by museums and heritage sites nationally, to explore some of the motivations for the museum sector to address migration and the challenges faced in doing so, and to provide an initial basis and context for participants in the Migration Network 2020/21 to explore further. Halfway up the high street in Totnes, a small town on the river Dart in Devon, a modest stone is set into the edge of the road. An exhibition guide to help you get the most of Taking Care of Business when visiting with your students.Miller’s new history of migration proposes that another axis of obscurity and denial runs through our history: the animus of sedentary peoples against their nomadic rivals. Nennius, meanwhile, was hardly unique in his invention: principalities across early medieval Europe, among them Brabant, Burgundy and Corsica, all claimed Trojan migrants as their founders. Much less is known however about those who have died trying to reach the sea, crossing the endless desert of Ténéré, in south central Sahara.
